About Walton

Walton is a village and civil parish in the county of West Yorkshire, 3.5 miles south-east of Wakefield City Centre. It was recorded in the Domesday Book and has over 3,000 residents.

The village lies on the Barnsley Canal and is home to Walton Hall, once the residence of Charles Waterton, the naturalist and explorer who, in 1820, transformed the grounds of the Walton Hall estate into England's first nature reserve.

The village contains parks, a tennis club, a village hall, football and rugby pitches, a library, a post office, a public house, a hotel, a sports and social club and a small number of shops and local amenities.
